Retro-Accelerators Might Come En Vogue Again

Particle physicists are busy working out proposals for the next bigger collider. One option that I hadn’t heard about is to go back to non-superconducting magnets. This would make the accelerator smaller and probably cheaper. On the other hand, it would be less energy-efficient, which will probably kill the idea. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. More here

New Report on Batteries Calls for Diversification

The Atlantic Council (a U.S. think tank) has put out a report about pros and cons of different batteries, basically calling for the market to diversify to reduce dependence on any particular resource. Very useful summary on Ars Technica here
