DeepMind has been busy folding proteins. A lot of proteins.

DeepMind has released predicted structures for nearly all cataloged proteins known to science, which expands the AlphaFold database more than 200 times. More information here

Lava tubes on the moon seem to retain a comfortable room temperature

A recent measurement indicates that parts of the moon inside craters and protected by shadows might get neither too hot during the (lunar) day, nor too cold during the night. This means they do not really understand just what is required to achieve their goal. Some researchers argue that the research direction is misguided.

In this week’s video, we talk about the difference between your brain and a computer and the question of whether there’s something about human thought that isn’t computable.

A contrarian scientist wrestles with the big questions that modern physics raises, and what physics says about the human condition. Here's the first review of my new book. Pre-order it here."Sabine Hossenfelder is a rare gem.... The result is not just illuminating, but enjoyable"

—Charles Seife, author of Decoding the Universe"[Sabine Hossenfelder] is one of our boldest young thinkers, and not just in physics. Her new book provides a splendid showcase for her iconoclastic outlook."

—John Horgan, author of The End of Science and director of the Center for Science Writings at Stevens Institute of Technology
